WAMY Community Action Resumes Operations
WAMY Community Action announced that the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has officially lifted the “Stop Work” Order for Community Services Block Grant activities, as well as for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program and the Heating and Air Replacement Program. Effective immediately, WAMY is authorized to resume operations for these critical programs, which provide essential services to low-income families in the region.
While the lifting of the “Stop Work” Order is a positive step forward, NCDHHS has indicated that the resumption of CSBG activities is subject to the availability of federal funds. At this time, federal funds for October and November have not been received, and there may be no reimbursement for expenses incurred during this period. WAMY remains committed to serving the community and will continue to monitor funding updates closely.
For LIHEAP and HAARP, the “Stop Work” Order was lifted effective December 10, 2025. WAMY will be reimbursed for all administrative work and limited programmatic activities related to these programs. However, it is important to note that WAMY has been told a future 20% reduction in federal funding for these programs is likely, which may impact the scope of services provided in the coming months.
“While we are relieved to resume operations and continue serving our community, the uncertainty surrounding federal funding remains a challenge,” said Brittany Luxton, Executive Director of WAMY Community Action. “We are committed to navigating these challenges and ensuring that our programs continue to support those in need.”
WAMY Community Action will provide updates as more information becomes available regarding federal funding and program operations. For more information about WAMY's programs and services, visit www.wamycommunityaction.org or contact Brittany Luxton at
