AN EVENING WITH LYLE LOVETT AND HIS ACOUSTIC GROUP

Beloved Texas troubadour returns to the High Country for a night of wit, warmth, and world-class musicianship — Sunday, October 5 at the Schaefer Center.

BOONE, NC — Appalachian Arts, App State’s Office of Arts Engagement and Cultural Resource’s performing arts series, proudly presents Lyle Lovett and his Acoustic Group, Sunday, Oct. 5 at 7:30pm at the Schaefer Center for the Performing Arts, for an unforgettable evening of music and storytelling. Tickets are on sale now at TheSchaeferCenter.org, in person at the Schaefer Center box office (733 Rivers Street), or by calling 828-262-4046.

With his signature wit, warmth, and masterful musicianship, four-time Grammy Award winner Lyle Lovett has been captivating audiences for nearly four decades. Since his self-titled debut in 1986, Lovett has become one of America’s most treasured singer-songwriters, celebrated for his ability to weave together country, swing, folk, gospel, blues, and jazz into a sound all his own.

Praised not only for his songwriting but also for his engaging stage presence, Lovett has earned the Americana Music Association’s Trailblazer Award and was honored as Texas State Musician. His songs — by turns heartfelt, humorous, and deeply human — continue to resonate across generations.

Performing with his Acoustic Group, Lovett strips back the sound for an intimate evening of music and storytelling. The acoustic setting highlights the group’s intricate musicianship, rich harmonies, and conversational connection with the audience. Fans can expect heartfelt ballads to clever, tongue-in-cheek favorites spanning Lovett’s 14 albums, paired with his trademark stories and anecdotes that bring each song to life.

The performance invites us into a sensory journey that includes sounds, stories, and musical idioms from at-risk coastal communities, with images and short films of disappearing mangrove swamps, coral reefs, oyster beds, seagrass, sand dunes, and mud volcanoes. Featuring musicians from the very communities most at risk, the performance balances blunt reality, eternal optimism, and surrealism, ultimately offering an exhortation to address climate change’s impact on our future.
