There have already been a number of ‘Fish Finales’ this fall as the curtain draws on the long High Country career of broadcaster and musician Bill Fisher. Festivities and a performance this Friday may be the final act, barring one final home ASU football game.

‘Fish,’ as Bill is know to most of us, has spent decades on the radio, on local TV, and as the stadium announcer for ASU sports, but with his departure to join his family in Florida in December, the ‘last of’ events are lining up. Already, there has been the final regular season home football game at ASU, during which Bill was honored by the broadcast and coaching staff in a video presentation late in the Western Carolina game. The jury is still out on one more play-off game here, the final basketball gig, and his last broadcast on television.
This Friday may mark another finale for the Fish, with an encore presentation of the rock opera Tommy. Fish the bassist will perform with Eco Park and the cast of the musical, but the location for Bill Fisher’s Farewell Reception and the Echo Park performance of Tommy have now been moved to the Watauga High School Auditorium. Construction at the Harvest House, originally set as the location, will not allow it to be ready for Friday. So the reception is now set for Friday, December 4, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. for Bill Fisher’s Farewell Reception at Watauga High School, then plan to stay and see Fish and the rest of Echo Park perform Tommy. Tickets are $10 at the door.Echo Park features Jamie Blanton on drums; Rusty Blanton on guitar and backing vocals; Bill “Fish” Fisher on bass and backing vocals; Steve Roark on keyboards, sax and backing vocals; and Bob Rochelle on lead vocals.
Joining Echo Park for the encore performance of Tommy will be guest artists Becca Eggers-Gryder, Billy Ralph Winkler, Melissa Reaves, Aaron Burleson, R. Kevin Johnson, Robbie Stevens, Jordan Jackson, Amanda Blanton, Daniel Rochelle and Emily Rochelle. The Who rock opera was presented by the group back in May at ASU.
