The Downtown Boone Development Association and the Watauga County Library are once again partnering to bring a special Christmas Story Walk to Downtown Boone for the Holiday Season. The Downtown Boone Christmas Story Walk will begin on Saturday, November 23 and run through January 2nd.
The Story Walk starts at the Watauga Co. Library and participates are encouraged to park at the Library or at the meters on Queen St.
The children’s story book for the Downtown Boone Christmas Story Walk is If You Take a Mouse to the Movies by Laura Numeroff and illustrated by Felicia Bond. The Story Walk starts at the Library and moves down Depot St. back up to W. King St. and concludes at Melanie’s on the corner of Depot and W. King St. Participates are encouraged to visit Youth Services at the Library to pick up their map and answer sheet to the questions on the story book pages. If the Library is not open families can still enjoy the Story Walk by following the directional signs attached to the story book pages.
Downtown Coordinator, Virginia Falck, states, “we received some positive feedback about our Downtown Boone Halloween Story Walk, and decided to move forward with a Christmas Story Walk.” She continues, “The idea is to provide our visitors to Downtown Boone with an activity the whole family can enjoy while at the same time enjoying our wonderful variety of shops, restaurants, and services. Downtown Story Walk provides children an opportunity to read and walk while parents might discover a special shop or restaurant they may have not noticed on a previous visit to Downtown Boone.”
Lisa Flanigan from the Watauga Co. Library is excited that the Christmas Story Walk will be up for a total of six weeks. “I think having the Christmas Story Walk up for the remainder of November and all through December will be great,” she states. “This will provide visitors, locals, and even school groups with plenty of opportunities to enjoy the Christmas Story Walk.” She continues, “Parents really have enjoyed our Story Walk program as it seems to encourage children to read out loud and even read to other children and siblings.”
