Junior Legion Splits Saturday DH

The Watauga Junior American Legion team split its double header with Patton in Morganton on Saturday. Watauga (9-8-1 overall; 7-7 in Area 4) lost the first game, 5-1, but came back to win the second game, 4-2. Carson Isaacs backboned Watauga's win in game two with three hits, including a triple, with two runs scored and two runs-batted-in. Isaacs' snapped a 2-2 tie with a run-scoring triple in the fourth inning. Brandon Warren scored the go-ahead run on the play.

Crawdads Blast Grasshoppers, 11-5

For the second night in a row, the Hickory Crawdads scored 11 runs against Greensboro and roughed up the Grasshoppers 11-5 Saturday night at LP Fran Stadium. The Hickory Crawdads scored five times in the bottom of the seventh and thumped the Greensboro Grasshoppers 11-4 at L.P. Frans Stadium on Friday night. McKaig Finishes 11th At Olympic Trials

Alissa McKaig of Zap Fitness Foundation of Blowing Rock turned in an 11th-place finish in the women's 10,000-meter run at the Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore., Friday night. McKaig finished the race in 32:31.66; Amy Hastings of Brooks won the race in 31:58.36. Sarah Porter, who's had a productive season with Zap Fitness did not finish the race.
