KERNERSVILLE, NC- Ashe County High senior Tafton Baker turned in an 11th-place finish at the 2A Boy's State Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at the Ivey Redmon Sports Complex.

The Watauga High football team captured its first outright championship in the Northwestern Conference since 1980 on Friday night with a 62-0 win against West Caldwell. The Pioneers (11-0, 7-0 NWC) also registered their first unblemished season in school history. And as of Saturday morning, the Pioneers were ranked 17th in the Maxpreps.com Top 25 NC Poll, and they are ranked 14th in the Charlotte Observer Sweet 16 Poll. It's the first time since 2007 that the Pioneers have been ranked in the Charlotte Observer Sweet 16 Poll.
