There are only two regional teams still alive in the state football playoffs, and both of those teams are from Caldwell County. South Caldwell advanced to the third round of the state playoffs (it's their first trip to the third round since 2005) Friday night by knocking off Kannapolis-Brown 23-14 in the second round of the NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs. The Spartans (11-2), the No. 4 seed in the 4A West, will play the No. 1 seed, Greensboro-Dudley next Friday night.
NEWBERRY, S.C. --- Sophomore Lepreece Lynch and senior Cameron Redd combined for 38 points and the Lees-McRae men's basketball team scored 27 points off of turnovers while earning their first win of the year with a 93-77 victory against Allen University Friday evening.
STATESBORO, Ga. – With a dominant 3-1 win over Troy University on Friday afternoon, the Appalachian State volleyball team advanced to the Sun Belt tournament semifinal match. The Mountaineers (21-7) took control of the match right from the start and carried their momentum throughout for the 3-1 win. Appalachian was led offensively by the Sun Belt Offensive Student-Athlete of the Year, Jess Keller (Swarthmore, Pa./Strath Haven), who finished with a match-high 23 kills. After her great offensive day, Keller is now just three kills away from cracking the all-time, top-10 list for kills in a career.
HAMPTON, Va. -- Frank Eaves did all he could Friday night. Unfortunately, as the old saying goes, "you can't do it all by yourself." And that was evident Friday night as the Appalachian State University men's basketball team dropped an 82-61 decision to Hampton in a non-conference game.
