WHS softball seeded 6th in NW3A/4A tournament PDF Print

The Watauga High softball team will open post-season play on the road at St. Stephens Tuesday afternoon in the opening round of the Northwestern 3A/4A Tournament.

The Pioneers are seeded sixth; St. Stephens is the No.3 seed. Game time is 5 pm. The winner of this game will play either Hickory or Fred T. Foard in the semifinals on Thursday.
The finals will be played on Friday. The semifinals and finals will be held at Alexander Central High School in Taylorsville.
The Pioneers are most likely looking at a possible wildcard berth concerning the state playoffs. Even though they split their season series with South Caldwell this season and finished in a tie for the No.2 seed among the 4A schools in the NW3A/4A Conference, South Caldwell finished higher (the Spartans are a No.4 seed) in the standings and will receive the automatic playoff berth.
South Caldwell will play Hibriten in the opening round in Sawmills. The winner gets Alexander Central in the semifinals on Thursday. The state playoffs begin Tuesday, May 18.
If WHS makes the state playoffs, the Pioneers could see Alexander Central, a school from Charlotte, or a school from Greensboro in that first-round game.
