BOONE, N.C. - App State baseball preps for the 2022 campaign with two matchups this fall.

The Mountaineers will host Wofford on Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. at Jim and Bettie Smith Stadium. On Nov. 7, App State heads to the Palmetto State to battle USC Upstate, which is also an 1 p.m. start.

Admission to the Wofford contest is free, but App State baseball will be accepting and collecting donations for AppKIDS. All monetary donations given will go directly toward AppKIDS. A collection box for items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, other hygiene items, winter coats and ect. will be available for drop off.

After securing a series win against eventual conference champion South Alabama and also earning the first-ever Sun Belt tournament win a season ago, the Mountaineers now reload and welcome a total of 14 newcomers consisting of three freshmen, 10 transfers and a walk-on.

Only four of the defensive starting nine from the final pool-play game against Louisiana in the Sun Belt tournament returned. Of the returnees, the Black and Gold welcomed back all-conference honorees Tyler Tuthill and Luke Drumheller.

App State also produced a program-best Sun Belt Conference record a season ago, 11-10.

With the Sun Belt ranking as a top-10 league in each of Kermit Smith's first five seasons, the Mountaineers are 32-33 in their last 65 Sun Belt regular season games after winning just nine times during Smith's first year and a half of rebuilding the program.

Scouting Wofford, the Terriers finished last season with a 36-21 overall record and 21-9 in the SoCon. As for USC Upstate, the Spartans concluded 2021 37-16 overall and 28-12 in the Big South.
