WHS FOOTBALL NOTES....Watauga High sophomore Isaiah Shirley has received his third Division I offer. This one comes from North Carolina State. Shirley also has offers from Appalachian State and Louisville.
Shirley had 44 tackles this season, including 16 solos. He also led the team with 12 tackles-for-loss and 4.5 sacks in just seven games.
Junior running back Carter Everett will have surgery for a torn ACL in his knee Tuesday. Everett was injured during last Friday night against Greensboro-Dudley. He suffered the injury during the latter part of the first quarter.
For the year, Everett ran for 464 yards (4.2 yard average) on 110 carries with six touchdowns. Defensively, he made 24 tackles with 3.5 TFL and he also recovered a fumble. Special team wise, Everett was 20-of=23 on extra points.
MARION, NC - The Watauga High boy's tennis team picked up an easy win Friday night, and they did it without two of their best players out of the line up.
The Pioneers were missing their No. 2 and No. 6 singles players, but WHS (4-1) picked up the slack by sweeping singles play and building a commanding 6-0 lead.
Friday's winners were, in singles play: Andrew Ganley, Carson Dillman, David Sprague, Abe Bachman, Matthew Neely, Christian Hamilton, and Ben Dewey,
Double winners were: Ganley and Sprague at No. 1; Dillman and Bachman at No. 2.
