MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Cooper Abernathy and Christian Bargaineer both posted top-five finishes, while three Bobcats ranked in the top-three during the preliminary rounds, to lead the Lees-McRae men's outdoor track & field team on the opening day of the Conference Carolinas Outdoor Track & Field Championships this afternoon.

LOCATION: Ray McDonald Sr. Track & Field Complex – Mount Olive, North Carolina

  • Abernathy finished fifth in the javelin throw with a mark of 43.29 meters, while Bargaineer was fifth in the long jump with a mark of 6.67 meters.
  • Bargaineer also finished first in the preliminary round of the 400-meter hurdles competition (56.39) with Corimonte Eatmon earning a spot in tomorrow's finals with a eighth-place finish (58.60), while Silas Arendash enters tomorrow's 1,500-meter run final in second place (4:07.8).
  • Brian Sims Jr. ran a 49.22 in the 400-meter dash to enter tomorrow's finals in third place
  • Cam Donovan posted a seventh-place finish in the pole vault (3.41 meters).

The Bobcats will close out the championship meet tomorrow starting at 9:30 a.m.
