MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – Deanna Betzer won the Conference Carolinas title and broke the school record in the 10,000-meter run, while Bayle Wood claimed all-conference honors in the javelin throw and Britney Augustin posted a victory in the preliminary rounds, to lead the Lees-McRae women's track & field team on a strong first day of the Conference Carolinas Championships.

LOCATION: Ray McDonald Sr. Track & Field Complex – Mount Olive, North Carolina

  • Betzer won the 10,000-meter run with a time of 38:59.58 and broke her own school record by more than a minute, while also earning first-team all-conference honors.
  • Wood finished third in the javelin throw with a mark of 33.46 to earn all-conference third team honors, while also finishing fifth in the hammer throw with a mark of 39.48 meters.
  • Madi Cantrell was also fifth in the pole vault (2.60 meters), while Megan Guess was sixth with a mark of 2.45 meters. 
  • Augustin finished first in the preliminary round of the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.88, and enters tomorrow's finals of the 100-meter hurdles in third with a time of 15.10. She also will enter the finals of the 100-meter dash in fifth as she broke the school record with a time of 12.30.

The Bobcats will close out the championship meet tomorrow starting at 9:30 a.m.
