BOONE - Appalachian State University offensive line coach Shawn Clark will be named the new head football coach of the Mountaineers on Friday. The University's Board of Trustees will hold a conference call Friday to make the official announcement.

Clark, who has been at App State for four seasons, replaces Elijah Drinkwitz, who left to become the head coach at the University of Missouri. Clark, who was named interim head coach on Monday by Athletic Director Doug Gillin, who was a candidate for the A.D. position at the University of Cincinnati, but will now stay in Boone, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

The Mountaineers (12-1), ranked 20th in this week's Associated Press Top 25 College Football Poll, captured their fourth straight Sun Belt Conference championship last Saturday against Louisiana. The Mountaineers will play the University of Alabama-Birmingham in the R&L Carrier Bowl in New Orleans, La., on Saturday, December 21 at 9 p.m. (coverage begins at 7 p.m., on WATA Radio, 1450 AM/96.5 FM.
