MONROE, LA. – Appalachian State (15-7, 4-0 SBC) shut out ULM (4-20, 1-3 SBC) in the first game of the series on Friday. In a 5-hit ballgame for both teams, the Mountaineers defeated the Warhawks 3-0.

In a defensive battle, neither team was able to get on the board until late when a Jenny Dodd double drove in Keri White and Laura Sales. A sixth inning single by Baylee Morton and an error by ULM brought home Sidney Russell for the final run of the game.

"I'm proud of the team to come into this series and get the first-game win on the road," head coach Shelly Hoerner said. "Kenzie pitched well and we played great defense behind her. Timely hitting by Jenny Dodd was pivotal for our offense today."

Appalachian State is now ranked second in the Sun Belt with a .979 fielding percentage.

Morton threw out her fifth runner caught stealing this season, currently tied for third in the Sun Belt.

Kenzie Longanecker picked up the win after pitching a complete game for a 9-0 overall record in the circle for the Mountaineers.

With today's win, the Apps are one of three Sun Belt teams to remain undefeated in league play.

The Mountaineers, sponsored by AutoStar Nissan of Boone, take on the Warhawks in game two of the series on Saturday, March 16 at 3 p.m.
