CHARLESTON, S.C. – Appalachian State Softball (7-3) extended its winning streak on Saturday to six straight games, making their weekend record 4-0 going into their final game on Sunday. App State defeated Radford 2-0 and went on to defeat Power Five opponent Iowa State 2-1.

The Apps have not beaten a Power Five opponent since 2014 when they beat North Carolina 4-3. Timely hitting, key defensive plays and solid pitching in the circle allowed the Mountaineers to sweep day two of the Holy City Showdown.

Maddie Siemer earned the shutout win in her first complete game of the season. She kept the Highlanders to four hits with one walk and three strikeouts.

Jenny Dodd and Alison Durrence loaded the bases with a walk and a hit by pitch. Baylee Morton drew a walk to bring in the first run and earn the RBI. Ally Walters smacked a single through the 5-6 hole for the second run.

App State vs. Iowa State (W, 2-1)
After six scoreless innings, the Mountaineers stepped up in the top of the seventh with a pair of go-ahead runs. Kifer singled to the pitcher to lead off the inning. Stewart reached on a fielder's choice on a sacrifice bunt and advanced to second base when Iowa State caught Kifer in a rundown advancing to third.

Durrence smoked her fifth home run over the left field fence to bring in both runs for the Mountaineers. A solo homer from the Cyclones in the bottom of the seventh wasn't enough, and the Apps came out on top with the 2-1 win.

The infield made key defensive moves with a couple of diving plays from second baseman Sidney Russell and first baseman Haley Stewart. A double play from White in the bottom of the fifth stranded two Cyclones on base.

Taylor Nichols pitched 4.1 innings for the Mountaineers before Sydney Holland entered the circle in the fifth. Holland earned the win and now holds a 3-2 record.
