NEWLAND, NC - Scott Grubb has stepped down as boy's basketball coach at Avery County High School, according to athletic director Jay Smith.

Grubb led the Vikings for two seasons. His teams posted a 45-12 record during that stretch. Grubb was named Avery County's coach in June of 2016 after holding the same position at Ashe County High School for four seasons. The Vikings were 20-7 l;ast season, and lost to North Stanley in the second round of the 1A state playoffs.. He was 24-5 with the Vikings in his first season at the helm.

Grubb, who replaced Marc Payne as the boy's basketball coach at Ashe County in 2012 before he stepped down in December of 2015, has been a coach for 22 seasons, which includes six years as a head coach at the varsity level. He was 74-65 in his career.

Grubb has accepted a position at Allegheny High School, which includes an assistant coaching position for the boys' basketball team. He plans to work towards an administrative degree.
