CHAPEL HILL – The North Carolina High School Athletic Association 1A and 3A Track and Field State Championship Meet, originally scheduled for Friday, May 18th, has been postponed to Sunday, May 20th. The decision to postpone was made after monitoring the weather forecast all morning and consulting with the officers of the NCHSAA Board of Directors.

“It is always difficult to decide to postpone or delay a State Championship event. However, with inclement weather in the forecast for much of the day on Friday, it became apparent that this decision is in the best interest of the 1A and 3A student-athletes who have worked so hard to reach this year’s State Championship meet,” said NCHSAA Commissioner Que Tucker.  The NCHSAA Staff will offer a 10AM FCA Devotion for any interested participants.

The 1A/3A meet will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 20th, at Irwin Belk Track located on the campus on North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro. The original meet timing schedule will be adjusted by one hour, with field events and a few running preliminaries starting the Championships at 11:00 a.m.

At this time, the 2A and 4A meet is still on as scheduled for Saturday, May 19th beginning at 10:00 a.m. It will also be held at the Irwin Belk Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T.

Watauga High has six qualifiers in the field. For the girls, Emma Brown will compete in the 100-meter hurdles, Sophia Ritter in the 3,200-meter run, and the 4x800-meter relay team. For the boys, Luke Drummonds will compete in the triple jump, Josh Lamont in the 3,200 and Bryce Satterfield in the 400-meter run.
