Watauga High senior Phillip Shukis has committed to Lenoir Rhyne University to play football next fall.

Shukis is the third WHS player that will play college football next season, joining teammates Josh Headlee (Appalachian State) and Alex McConnell (Western Carolina).

All three of those seniors will officially sign their National Letters of Intent in February.

"We are very proud of Phillip," said WHS coach Ryan Habich. "He was one of our top senior leaders on this year's football team. He worked extremely hard on and off the field and we believe he will do very well at Lenior Rhyne University".

Shukis was a two-way performer for the Pioneers last fall. Offensively, he caught seven passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Shukis made 53 tackles, including 21 solo stops, with a fumble recovery.
