UPDATED: Hairston Charged With Assault & Battery PDF Print

P.J. Hairston is in trouble again. This time around, Hairston, who was selected by the Miami Heat and traded to the Charlotte Hornets in the first round (26th pick) of the National Basketball Association

Draft, is facing assault and battery charges after a high school basketball player in Durham claims the former UNC player punched him on Sunday at a Durham YMCA. Hairston has an August 8 court date.



The 17-year-old said that Hairston punched him twice while they were playing a recreational game. Kentrell Barkley claims he did not throw any punches.


Hairston was officially charged with assault and battery on Monday. He will not be arrested, however he was issued a criminal summons.


Hairston has not confirmed or denied the reports, however, his agent did confirm an incident did take place and punches were thrown after the players started shoving each other.


The Charlotte Hornets released a statement on Sunday:


“The organization is aware of an incident this afternoon involving P.J. Hairston. We are in the process of gathering additional information and will have no further comment at this time.”
