The Freedom High girls' basketball team captured the silver medal at the North Carolina Powerade State Games in Charlotte, N.C., in the High School Girls' Basketball Showcase.




The Patriots, who were 4-2 in tournament play, defeated Scotland County 66-51 in the semfinals Sunday morning before they lost to Weddington 52-42 in the finals. Weddington captured its second gold medal in a row. Scotland County defeated Ardrey Kell 61-58 in the bronze medal game.


Raleigh Millbrook won the gold medal in the boys tournament. Millbrook (6-0) defeated Voyager Academy 82-66 in the finals; Fayetteville-71st knocked off North Rowan 70-65 in the bronze medal game.
