Watauga High boys' basketball coach Rob Sanders has released the 2014-15 schedule for both the boys' and girls' teams this season.

The Pioneers will play 23 regular-season games, which includes 11 home dates. The Pioneers open the season at home against Alexander Central on November 21 at Lentz-Eggers Gym. They will play their first four games of the season at home before they play their first road game of the season at Wilkes Central on December 10.

The Pioneers will play their Northwestern 3A-4A Conference opener on the road at St. Stephens on December 16. WHS will play in the Ashe County Christmas Tournament for the second year in a row, December 29-30. WHS defeated Hibriten in the finals of that tournament last year.

And the Poineers will celebrate Senior Night at L-E Gym on Tuesday, February 10 against Hickory. The NW3A-4A Conference Tournament will be played February 16-20; the state playoffs begin Monday, February 23.

The WHS boys were 19-10, and they reached the sectional finals last season for the second time in five years. They lost to Greensboro-Page in the sectional championship game. The 19 wins were the most by WHS in a single season since 1997-98, when the Pioneers went 20-8. The WHS girls were 9-18, and they lost to McDowell in the opening round of the state playoffs.
