Lees-McRae senior Jessica Smith capped off her career with a two-hit performance while No. 8 LMC fell victim to No. 1 Limestone, 5-1, in the Conference Carolinas Softball Tournament Saturday afternoon at Springwood Park in Burlington, N.C.
The Saints (30-17) were powered by Leea Polin, who connected on two solo blasts, and defeated LMC for the fourth consecutive time in the last two weeks. The Bobcats (9-37) saw their top three hitters register a hit while four seniors played their final game in a Bobcat uniform.
LMC threatened in the first when Sarah Stallings (Greensboro, N.C.) and Valerie Hickey (Umatilla, Fla.) used back-to-back singles to open the frame, but the Bobcat offense was unable to push across a run.
Coach Merritt Yackey's squad would take a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when First-Team All-Conference catcher Sadie Lagle (Harmony, N.C.) roped a RBI double to left, plating Hickey.
LC used three singles in the bottom of the third, including a run-scoring bloop to right field by Bailie Maybry to tie it at one.
Polin connected on her first homer of the day with a blast in the bottom of the fourth.
The Saints stretched the lead to two when Ashley Cox drove in Paige Bolding with a single. Bolding opened the frame with a leadoff triple.
Polin smacked her second round tripper to lead off the bottom of the sixth before Cox struck again for a RBI single to cap off the scoring.
Smith (Gastonia, N.C.) doubled in her last at-bat as a Bobcat.
Taylor Wigmore went the distance in the win and scattered six hits while striking out five.
Celeste Sheppard (East Julian, N.C.) took the loss after allowing two earned runs in four innings of work.
