|App State Blasts Elon, 11-1|

The Appalachian State University softball team is on a roll. The Mountaineers have won four of their last their last five games. They simply dominated Elon in the final game of their three-game Southern Conference weekend series.
The Mountaineers pounded out 13 hits and blasted Elon, 11-1. The game was called after the sixth inning because of the ten-run mercy rule.
Cara Parker paced the the Mountaineers (17-23, 5-9 SoCon) going 2-3 with her seventh home run of the year and three runs-batted-in. Sarah Warnock and Caroline Reed had two RBI apiece.
The Apps didn't waste any time getting on the board. They got things started with a pair of runs in the first inning. Dani Heichen (Pembroke Pines, Fla./Pembroke Pines Charter), who was 3-4 on Sunday and 9-12 in the series, led off with a single. She eventually scored on a throwing error for a 1-0 lead.
Warnock highlighted a four-run second inning with a two-run double that gave the Apps a 5-0 lead. Parker (Lake Park, Ga./Lowndes) had a sacrifice fly that scored Gomez that made it 6-0. The Phoenix (21-20-1, 4-11 SoCon) scored their lone run in the bottom of the second when Lauren Oldham and Ali Ford both doubled.
Caroline Reid's (Bear, Del./Caravel Academy) two-run double in the third made it, 8-1; a double by Ashley Seering in the sixth made it 9-1p; Parker's two-run blast closed out the scoring.
Alissa Schoelkopf (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) got the start, went 2.1 innings and picked up her fourth win of the season. Schoelkopf gave up five hits and allowing just one run. The junior also tallied three strikeouts. She now has 235 in her career, two shy of fifth place on the school's all-time list.
Shivaun Landeros (Sparks, Nev./Edward C. Reed) came on in relief and allowed no runs and no hits in her 3.2 innings of work with four strikeouts.
App State returns home Tuesday to play Campbell in a doubleheader at Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium at 4 p.m.
