It took a bit, but the Watauga High boys' lacrosse team finally cracked the win column by knocking off Morganton-Patton 15-4 Monday night on the road.


Ben Henson led the charge with four goals; Canyon Mueller chipped in with three, Jake Williams and Zach Williams each had two goals apiece. Dylan Arbogast, Bryce Wallace, Zach Tomer and Josh Horine each had a goal.


Goalkeeper Andrew Stratton made 13 saves.


"It means a lot to have these guys put in all the work," said WHS coach Brett Green, who picked up his first career win. "They finally saw all that hard work pay off. It's awesome."


The Pioneers travel to St. Stephens Friday.





The Watauga High boys' golf team turned in its best showing of the season on Monday. The Pioneers fired a team score of 321 and finished seven shots behind St. Stepehns, which won the Northwestern 3A-4A Conference meet with a 314 at the Silver Creek Golf Club.


Hibriten finished third with a 325; Hickory finished fourth with a 331.


Spencer Ramseur of St. Stephens was the leading medalist as he fired an even par 72. Austin Graham of WHS finished four shots back with a four-over par 76; Austin Northern was five shots back with a 77; Troy McNeil had an 80.


The Pioneers travel to the Catawba Country Club for a NW3A-4A meet on Thrusday.

The Watauga High boys' tennis team spotted Newton-Conover a 2-0 lead before the Pioneers (5-2) rallied to win 6-3 Monday afternoon.


Caleb Gould and Brody O'Neal sparked the comeback. Gould defeated Chandler Roffey of the Red Devils, 6-0, 6-0, at No.3 singles for WHS' first win of the day. Will Spinetto tied the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Aaron Hamm at No.4 singles, and WHS took the lead for good as Brody O'Neal knocked off Anderson Welsh, 6-1. 6-0, at No.5 singles.


The Pioneers clinched the match with a win at No.2 doubles. Gould and O'Neal defeated Roffey and William Pittman, 8-0.


The Pioneers travel to South Caldwell today. The Elkin match that was postponed last week will not be rescheduled.
