Strickland Completes First Sun Belt Class PDF Print

Appalachian State University women’s soccer head coach Sarah Strickland announced the signing of nine student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on

Tuesday. The recruiting class will be the first to play as a member of the Sun Belt Conference for the women’s program after competing exclusively in the Southern Conference.

 

“Signing our 2014 class is a long awaited celebration for a group of girls that have already shown tremendous commitment to the future of our program,” said Strickland. “We have made a huge investment in North Carolina youth soccer players with only one coming from another state. The talent level of these players will definitely compliment our core group as we transition into the Sun Belt.”

 

KELLY FLANDERS • 5-4 • Midfielder • Huntersville, N.C. • Hopewell H.S.

HIGH SCHOOL: Was all-conference and all-region as a sophomore and junior … as a sophomore and junior was named offensive most valuable player … also had the most goals scored as a sophomore and junior … scored 45 career goals (9- freshman, 14 sophomore, 22 junior year) and tallied 13 career assists … was captain of her club team, Carolina Rapids, as a junior and senior.

HIGH SCHOOL: Tallied the most assists in Southlake Christian history … played for Lake Norman Soccer Club … all-tournament player in 2013 … spent two years on ODP’s first team and one year on second team … qualified for nationals in 2013 … region three for one year … North Carolina state semi-finalists.

PERSONAL: Daughter of Jennifer Cutting … born August 13, 1996 … father, Derick Graham, played for the Cincinnati Reds … hobbies includes photography, flatboarding, modeling, hiking and international travel … plans to major in interior design and minor in business.

HIGH SCHOOL: Was an all-conference and all-region selection during freshman through junior seasons … offensive MVP for freshman, sophomore and junior campaigns … played for N.C. Fusion club team … won two state championships and two runner-up state championships … U16 regional semi-finals.

PERSONAL: Daughter of Dennis and Julie Kubrick … born October 4, 1996 … has two siblings; Kristin (24) and Alex (21) … father, Dennis played college rugby … sister, Alex plays soccer at UNC Charlotte.

HIGH SCHOOL: Was named all-state, all-conference and all-region as a junior … earned all-conference and all-region as a sophomore and freshman … named team MVP following junior campaign … scored 34 goals from freshman year through junior year … played for ’95 Fusion Elite G club team and was named captain senior year.

HIGH SCHOOL: Was all-conference and all-region freshman, sophomore and junior seasons … was named team MVP for freshman and sophomore campaigns … scored a total of 75 goals in first three high school years … member of Lake Norman Soccer Club … ASL all-tournament team selection … U-20 national honorable mention … scored 85 total goals.
