ASU Women Down Wofford, 61-54 PDF Print

The Appalachian State University women's basketball knocked off Wofford 61-54 in a close Southern Conference game at the Holmes Convocation Center Saturday afternoon.

 

 

 

The Mountaineers (8-12, 5-5 SoCon) and the Terriers (5-25, 3-7) got hooked up in a game that featured 13 ties and 13 lead changes. The teams finished the first half in a 19-19 tie.

 

Appalachian finally started pulling away with 7:29 left in the game on a jumper by Katie Mallow. The Mountaineers owned a three-point lead before Mallow stepped up again and hit a jumper with 33 seconds left in the game, increasing ASU's lead to five points, 57-52. The Apps closed things out as Maryah Sydnor hit four free throws down the stretch.

 

Sydnor posted her tenth double-double of the season with 20 points and 13 rebounds. KeKe Cooper followed with 14 points and nine rebounds. The Mountaineers shot 35.7 percent on the night, pulling down 42 rebounds with 19 turnovers.

 

Jordan Frazier was unstoppable for the Terriers, scoring 25 points in the loss. She also had five steals. Logan Morris had 12 points for Wofford. The Terriers shot 36.0 percent from the floor in the game, while recording 33 rebounds and made 19 turnovers.

 

Appalachian takes on Furman at the Holmes Center Monday night at 6 p.m..
