The Arizona Fall League has announced its 2013 Top Prospects Team, with
Crawdads catcher Jorge Alfaro listed among the league's elite players.
Selected by Fall League managers and coaches, the Top Prospects Team recognizes players who distinguished themselves throughout the league's six-week 2013 schedule against other top prospects from every organization in Major League Baseball. Voters were asked to consider both the player's Fall League performance, and their major league potential.
Alfaro, 20, helped guide the Surprise Saguaros to the AFL Championship with an RBI single and two thrown out base runners in the championship game. The Columbia native also played in the "Fall Stars" game after finishing runner-up for the league batting title with a .386 average. Alfaro ended the AFL season with 35 total bases, 11 RBI and 6 doubles over his 19 games played.
Alfaro was joined by fellow former Crawdads Ryan Rua ('13), Keone Kela ('13), Will Lamb ('11-12), and Nick McBride ('11-12) on the champion Saguaros squad.
The highlight of the event will be Texas Rangers Assistant GM Thad Levine, who will serve as the keynote speaker. Levine boasts 15 years of MLB front office experience, including the last eight with the Rangers, and will provide plenty of insight into the organization's inner workings and minor league operations.
The evening will also include several area baseball coaches from both the high school and college ranks, giving fans a chance to learn about the local teams and leagues.
"This is shaping up to be an exciting year for us with the stadium renovations and the SAL All-Star Game, and this is a great way to kick things off," said Crawdads GM Mark Seaman. "This should be a fun night for the fans."
Tickets are available now starting at $30 for individuals, or $200 for tables of 8. Ticket prices include both dinner and the night's program. For more information or to order tickets, call the Crawdads front office at (828) 322-3000. Tickets may also be ordered online by visiting the 'Dads website here.
