The Watauga High wrestling team had another strong showing in its second tournament of the season. The Pioneers had five place finishers and three champions in the field at the Old Appalachian Invitational
on Wednesday at Lentz-Eggers Gym.
Senior Demetre Kostis led the way as he won his second championship of the year at 132 pounds. He was also named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler for the second time this season. Kostis captured that award last week at Cornelius-Hough.
Mark Townsend, a place finisher in last week's season opener, won his first title of the year at 120 pounds; Jacob Rutz won the championship at 220 pounds. Alex Wetmore took third place in the 106 pound weight class and Jeremia Woolridge finished third in the heavyweight division.
The Pioneers have produced 12 place finishers and four champions in their first two outings of the year. WHS travels to Morganton, N.C., on December 4 for a tri-meet with Freedom and West Caldwell.
