|Bobcats Receive NSCAA Team Academic Award|

The Lees-McRae College women's soccer team has received the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Team Academic Award for the sixth straight season, posting a combined grade point average of 3.33 for the second straight year during the 2012-2013 academic year, announced NSCAA officials Thursday.
Lees-McRae (10-7-1, 8-1 Conference Carolinas) is one of six conference schools to earn this award, and the only member to have both the men's and women's programs receive the honor. The Bobcats claimed their third straight conference regular season championship this fall, posting an 8-1 record in league play while closing the regular season with a 10-match unbeaten streak. The stretch included eight straight clean sheets, and a period of more than 830 minutes without allowing a goal.
The Bobcats had the highest GPA of all Conference Carolinas schools last season, beating out Pfeiffer University's mark of 3.31 for the top spot. King University was third with a 3.19, followed by Barton College (3.15), Mount Olive College (3.14), and Belmont Abbey College (3.07).
Lees-McRae is expected to return 19 letter-winners from this year's Conference Carolinas regular season championship squad, including rising seniors Ariana Smith (Jackson, N.J.), Kaitlyn Briggs (Oviedo, Fla.), and Meagan Thornton (Millville, N.J.).

Lees-McRae (9-7-1, 5-3 Conference Carolinas) is one of three conference schools to earn this award, and one of two members to have both the men's and women's programs receive the honor. The Bobcats made a triumphant return to the top half of the league table this season, posting a 5-3 record against conference opponents to earn the fourth seed in the conference tournament. Lees-McRae was one of the best defensive teams in league play this fall, allowing six goals in eight matches while keeping five clean sheets.
The Bobcats had the highest GPA of all NCAA Division II Southeast Region and Conference Carolinas teams last season, improving on their mark of 3.16 in 2011-2012 with a GPA of 3.27 this past year. Barton College was second with a 3.07 GPA, narrowly edging Limestone College's combined mark 3.07.
Lees-McRae is expected to return 21 letter-winners from this season's squad which posted a 5-3 record in conference play, while limiting opponents to just six goals in league action. The Bobcats will bring a talented and seasoned corps into the 2014 campaign, led by rising seniors James Smith (Eastbourne, England), James Galvani (High Wycombe, England), Brandon Meade (Mocksville, N.C.), Andrew Shoemaker (Raleigh, N.C.), and Alford.
