The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Basketball Team was picked second in the 2013-14 South Atlantic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, league officials announced this morning.

L-R received four first-place votes for a total of 112 points. Newberry was voted to win the league title after garnering 114 points including five first-place votes.

Lenoir-Rhyne returns four starters from a squad which finished 19-10 on the season last year including a 13-5 mark in league play and advanced to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Tournament in Morrow, Ga.

In addition, the Bears are ranked No. 23 in the 2013-14 NCAA Division II Bulletin National Preseason Top 25 Women's Basketball Poll.

Junior guard Jazmine Charles (Lexington, N.C.) was named to the all-league preseason first team for the Bears. Charles, a 2012-13 All-SAC First-Team honoree, led the team in scoring (11.3 ppg) and three-pointers made (44) last year.

L-R sophomore guard Jordan Hiatt (Mount Airy, N.C.) is another top player returning for the Bears. Hiatt averaged 7.3 points and 4.6 rebounds last year en route to league all-freshman team accolades.

Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Harrisonburg, Va., to take on James Madison on Sunday beginning at Noon in an exhibition. L-R opens the 2013-14 season on Saturday, November 9, against Barton in the SAC/Conference Carolinas Challenge in Jefferson City, Tenn., at 5:00 p.m.

L-R's first home game on the season takes place on Wednesday, November 20, against Queens in a South Atlantic Conference contest at Shuford Memorial Gymnasium beginning at 6:00 p.m.
