The Lenoir-Rhyne Women's Soccer Team (10-3-1, 6-1-1) suffered its first South Atlantic Conference
regular season loss in three years with a 1-0 setback to Catawba (9-5-1, 5-3-1) Wednesday evening at Frock Field.
L-R, ranked No. 11 in NCAA Division II and first in the Southeast Regional Poll, also saw its eight-match winning streak come to an end.
Catawba's Mary Kirkman (Burlington, N.C.) scored the lone goal of the contest at the 60:32 mark of the second half.
The Indians' Bethany Davis (Salisbury, N.C.) earned the shutout victory in goal after stopping seven shots. The shutout was Davis' third on the year as Catawba won its fourth straight match.
Lenoir-Rhyne junior goalkeeper Genny Little (Fredericksburg, Va.) suffered her first loss of the year after nine victories. Little allowed just one goal while tallying four saves despite the setback.
Lenoir-Rhyne's last South Atlantic Conference Regular Season loss came exactly three years ago today: a 1-0 setback to Wingate in Wingate, N.C. Between the two defeats, the Bears were 26-0-1 against league foes.
L-R returns home to face Newberry on Senior Day on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., at the Moretz Sports - Athletic Complex. Catawba plays Lincoln Memorial in Harrogate, Tenn., on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., as well in a league contest.
