Appalachian State University field hockey fell in a 8-1 match against VCU on Sunday. The match began with three straight goals from VCU's Emilie Soares to make the score 3-0 at the half.

The Ram's found the net again quickly in the second, scoring from the left side from Alexis Schramm to lengthen the lead.

The Mountaineers got on the board finally when Jordyn Warren assisted a tipped in shot by Lynnae Luettich at the 48:54 minute mark. The goal would be Luettich's first of her career.

The goal would not help the Apps gain a victory as the Rams scored four more times with goals from Nicola Breeman, Stephanie Demasi, Schramm and Erika Bienlien to make the final score 8-1.

Lindsay Amador and Caroline Phillips added three shots each for the Mountaineers. Cristina Ceppi got the start in goal, recording eight saves on the match for Appalachian.

VCU tallied 26 total shots on the match, while the Apps had 12. App State got the edge in penalty corners, recording nine to the Rams' four.

The Mountaineers will return to NorPac play when they travel to Davidson on Oct. 11 for a 6:30 p.m match.
