The Watuaga Middle School football team was in a generous mood Wednesday afternoon. The Wolverines (2-4) made three critical turnovers that handed William-Lenior three touchdowns in a 26-6 loss.
Quarterback Isaiah Finger scored Watauga's only TD on a 20-yard run in the second quarter.
"It was 8-6 midway through the second quarter, and then we throw an interception and it broke out backs," said Watuaga coach Dale Allred. "It was just one of those games. The kids played well for the most part, but we just made some critical mistakes at the wrong time."
Damon Moretz had a strong game defensively for the Wolverines. Evan Ebaugh recovered a fumble. In the fifth quarter, which is for seventh graders only, Ethan Perry had an interception; Evan Catoe and Ben Stewart each recovered a fumble.
The Wolverines travel to Gamewell next Wednesday, October 9 at 4:30 p.m.; they wrap up the season at home against East McDowell on Monday, October 21 beginning at 4:30 p.m.
