|ASU Field Hockey Drops Season Opener|

Appalachian State University field hockey fell to Kent State University 6-2 on Sunday morning in their first 2013 season appearance. The Golden Flashes scored their first
goal 27 minutes into the match off of a penalty corner by Jenna McHale. They continued to score two more times, once at the 32:59 minute mark by Rebecca Lee and once at 44:50 minute mark by Alyssa McFerren.
Appalachian found the net when junior forward Jessi Stuart (Middletown, Pa./Lower Dauphin) scored an unassisted goal at the 50:20 mark, making the score 3-1. Kent State kept the goals coming by scoring three more times, all unassisted, by Melanie Kahn, Alexis Madeira and Shannon Martin.
The Mountaineers struck one more time at the 64:01 mark with a goal off of a penalty corner by junior midfielder Dana Wetmore (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom). The goal would not be enough as App State fell, 6-2.
Senior goalkeeper, Sarah Anderson (Louisville, Ky./Kentucky Country Day) spent all 70 minutes in goal, recording 21 saves.
With the loss, Appalachian begins the season 0-1, while the Golden Flashes improves to 1-1 on the season. The Mountaineers return to action tomorrow in Harrisonburg, Va when they play Ball State at 11 a.m.
