The Watauga High volleyball team suffered through a long afternoon in Charlotte on Saturday. WHS (14-7) was swept in a tri-match at Hough High School in Charlotte. The host Huskies defeated the Pioneers in a three-game sweep: 16-25, 20-25, 21-25. Ardrey Kell defeated WHS in three games in its second match: 19-25, 24-26, 20-25. The seven losses are the most in one season for the Pioneers since 2002.
Kristen Carter had 33 assists on the day; Colby Combs had 20 kills and five blocks; Skylar Hicks had 33 digs.
"Today we played two of the top teams in our region," said WHS coach Kris Hagaman. "It was just not our day, too many mistakes at critical times. We will have to learn from the experience and concentrate on finishing our conference season strong."
