Mountaineer Football Notebook: ASU Selects Captains PDF Print

Nose tackle Chris Aiken (Austin, Texas/Reagan), linebacker Demery Brewer (Lincolnton, N.C./Lincolnton), offensive lineman Orry Frye (Charlotte, N.C./Providence), cornerback Ed Gainey (Winston-Salem, N.C./Mount Tabor), quarterback DeAndre Presley (Tampa, Fla./Middleton) and wide receiver Brian Quick (Columbia, S.C./Ridge View) have been selected as Appalachian State University football’s team captains for the 2011 season, head coach Jerry Moore announced on Tuesday. The six captains were selected in a vote by the team’s players.


“Our six captains are great leaders and obviously well-respected by their teammates,” Moore said. “The leadership that they provide is invaluable to our program.”


SATURDAY’S ASU-VT BROADCAST TO AIR ON 68 STATIONS NATIONWIDE, INCLUDING EVERY MAJOR MARKET IN N.C.: The ACC Network broadcast of Saturday’s season opener between No. 2 Appalachian and No. 13 (AP) Virginia Tech will air on 68 stations across the United States.

Among the stations carrying Saturday’s broadcast are six that cover every major market in North Carolina: TV 46 WJZY in Charlotte, Fox 8 WGHP in the Triad, Fox 50 WRAZ in the Triangle, ABC 13 WLOS in Asheville, Fox 26 WSFX in Wilmington and Fox Eastern Carolina WFXI in Greenville.

The 68 ACC Network affiliates airing Saturday’s broadcast range from coast to coast, with stations as far as Boston, Miami, Los Angeles and Green Bay carrying the ASU-VT showdown. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. EDT. For a complete list of stations airing Saturday’s game, visit or


MOUNTAINEER TALK RETURNS ON THURSDAY AT MELLOW MUSHROOM: Mountaineer Talk, the Appalachian IMG Sports Network’s official ASU football radio call-in show, makes its 2011 debut on Thursday at 7 p.m., live from its new home, the Mellow Mushroom on King Street in downtown Boone.

The Voice of the Mountaineers, David Jackson, and head coach Jerry Moore will discuss this week’s much-anticipated season opener versus Virginia Tech just hours before the Apps get on the bus for Blacksburg and answer questions from the audience at Mellow Mushroom and fans calling in from across the globe.
