Appalachian State University women’s soccer head coach Sarah Strickland announced the hiring of assistant coach Lindsey Morgan on Wednesday.Morgan spent the 2010 season at Stephen F. Austin, where she helped guide the squad to a 13-5-2 record and a second place in the Southland Conference.
Strickland noted, “I am excited to welcome Lindsey into the Appalachian State family. She is a very enthusiastic coach that is going to make an immediate impact on our team. Lindsey really impressed the players and staff on her visit to Appalachian and we cannot wait for her to begin working this summer.”
Prior to serving at SFA, Morgan spent the 2009 season coaching her alma mater, Columbus State University, where she earned four letters. As an assistant, Morgan coached the Cougars to a 16-3-3 overall mark and 8-1-1 conference record.
In addition to her collegiate coaching duties, Morgan served as the head coach and operations director for Columbus Futbol Club, Redstar. Additionally, Morgan served as a senior staff coach for the Columbus State Soccer Camps from 2007-09. While working in this capacity, she was invited to elite camps with Florida State, Birmingham United Soccer Association and Atlanta Fire United of Region III Premier League.
As a midfielder at Columbus State, Morgan made 84 starts in four seasons. She finished her career with seven goals and 20 assists and earned NSCAA All-Region honors as a senior.
Morgan earned a bachelor’s degree in communication from Columbus State in 2010. She holds a USSF Class D license.
The Atlanta native replaces Hallie Briggs, who leaves the staff to pursue a master’s degree.
“I am very thankful for the opportunity I had to work with Hallie for the last year and a half,” Strickland added. “I, and everyone here, wish Hallie the best of luck in graduate school and know she will always be involved in our program.”
The Mountaineers open the 2011 campaign at the VCU Tournament in Richmond against William & Mary on August 26.
