Robert Kent Sebastian, age 83, of North Wilkesboro, passed away Friday, March 19, 2021.
He was born August 20, 1937 in Wilkes County to Robert Eugene and Nannie Absher Sebastian. Robert was proud to say that he was a veteran of the United States Air Force. He was stationed in Myrtle Beach, SC in the late 1950’s. He made many lifelong friends during his time in service. After he was discharged from the Air Force, he settled back home and married Dorothy Shumate. One of his close friends once said, “Robert has loved Dorothy since he was 12 years old.” They remained together through thick and thin for 61 years. He has always been an avid motorcycle enthusiast and rode any chance he could get. One of his favorite places to ride was the Blue Ridge Parkway. He bought, traded and tinkered with numerous motorcycles over the years. He liked the outdoors, loved to fish when he got the chance. He had a favorite fishing hole on Mulberry Creek. He took his daughters there to teach them to fish. Robert worked as a machinist and welder, and he was very proficient at his chosen trade. Robert was a trickster and loved to play pranks on his friends and co-workers. He had friends that did the same to him as well. He loved it, even when the trick was on him. Robert also liked Chevys with power under the hood. He had some nice vehicles throughout the years, his favorites being a black and chrome ’57 Chevy, and a pristine ’63 Corvette Stingray, just to name a couple. Family was important to him and he loved to have his family around him. He loved to play with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially in his later years. This made his days much brighter. Robert was a good and honest man, most importantly he was a Christian. He is embarking on his perpetual afterlife that we cannot even fathom. We mourn our loss, but he is walking the streets of gold, probably playing tricks on old friends that have gone on before him. Jesus is laughing at his pranks, while welcoming him home. We can only imagine his joy.
