On an unseasonably warm and beautiful Sunday morning, February 28, 2021, Mr. James Radford McQueen, Jr. of 159 North Street in Boone, NC, walked unaided, peacefully and joyfully into his heavenly father’s arms.

While he will be missed here, we know that we will see him again and rejoice in knowing that he is no longer in pain or discomfort. Left to cherish the memories of his love for the Lord, his beautiful smile, his contagious laugh, and his tender heart, are his loving and loyal wife of 48 years, Karen Elizabeth Danner McQueen of the home, his mother, Clara Hagler McQueen, his sisters Carolyn Grimes, Tracy Denny and husband Eric Lee, his brothers Rex McQueen, Phillip McQueen, and Jon McQueen. James Radford will be greatly missed by his children, James Kelvin White and wife Melissa Jo of West Jefferson, NC; Brandy Sappington and husband Andrew of Blowing Rock, NC; Dena McQueen and husband Mark Sloan of Munster, Indiana; Jaime McQueen and partner Taiwan Grimes of Boone, NC; James Radford McQueen, III and wife Kristi of Boone, NC; and Peter McQueen of Boone, NC. He is also survived by seven precious grandbabies of whom he was extremely proud. Although they are heartbroken, they are at peace knowing that PawPaw will be ready to lift weights and to talk Dallas Cowboys football and politics when they see him again! Standing in the need of prayer for comfort are his six grandsons Timothy James-Patrick McQueen and partner Holly Benson of Boone, NC; Andrew Jordan McQueen of Blowing Rock, NC; Samuel Quinn Sappington and partner Kelly Griffin of Blowing Rock, NC; Dorian James McQueen of Boone, NC, Cameron Reed Grimes of Boone, NC; Jeremiah James Paul McQueen of Boone, NC; and his only granddaughter, Briana Leighann Jones of Boone, NC. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. James Radford McQueen, Jr. was born in Boone, NC on November 9, 1950 to James Sr. and Clara McQueen. James Radford graduated from Watauga High School in 1968, the third graduating class of WHS. James Radford was retired from food service management, after careers as an EMT, an insurance salesman and a licensed orderly during his short, but busy 70 years in Watauga County. James Radford was also a member of the Boone Mennonite Brethren Church, where he sang for many years in the church choir and with the Gospel Gems. His love for music and the Lord meshed well and he shared his anointed voice any chance that he could. Even as he became more dependent on his oxygen machine, he never gave up his love for gospel music as he hummed along to his favorite songs in between watching Nascar, the Dallas Cowboys, the History Channel, and any animal rescue show that he
could find! James Radford stood tall both in stature and in heart, and the family is eternally grateful to God for sharing such a beautiful soul with
the world.

Mr. James Radford McQueen, Jr was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Mary Wanda Danner; his grandmother, Jennie Horton McQueen; his father, James Radford McQueen, Sr; sister-in-law, Shirley McQueen (Rex) and brother-in-law, Joseph Grimes, Sr. (Carolyn). The family is at peace knowing that they are together now.

Due to current conditions, a private graveside service will be held at a later time.

The family would like to express thanks to their church family, whose support and love has showered them with comfort.
Special thanks to Pastor Reggie Hunt, Tonia Ball Coles, Gene Ray, and John Aaron Whittington, Richard and Elizabeth Pedroni and the Gaddy family for their assistance during this difficult time.

Flowers for the gravesite are greatly appreciated and memorials may be made to Hampton Funeral Service of Boone.
