Yvonne Holbrook Thomas, 81, was born on August 7, 1939 to Mack and Anna Cropps Holbrook of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina.
She was a graduate of Lincoln Heights High School in North Wilkesboro, North Carolina. On March 13, 1957, she married Dennis Elworth Thomas and they remained married until her death. Together, they celebrated 63 years of marriage. In her early years, she was a dedicated and active member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she spent many years as head of the usher board and the church kitchen. Yvonne loved canning and cooking for her family and friends. She ran a successful catering business where her food became the center of attention at many weddings and social events. She was known for her signature potato salad and homemade rolls. She worked for Sherrill Faw Construction Company overseeing the cleaning and preparation for new home construction walk-throughs. She later returned to her love for cooking when she accepted a job as head cook for Woodlawn Child Development Center. She loved traveling, shopping, entertaining and trying new foods. Her favorite movie was the Color Purple and she could recite every line.
Yvonne departed this life on February 24, 2021. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two (2) sisters: Margaret Waugh of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina and Patricia Bryant (James) of Mt. Vernon, New York. Two (2) brothers: Richard Mack Holbrook (Eleanor) of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina and Rick Allen Holbrook (Diane) of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina and one (1) great-great granddaughter, Legend Johnson of Boomer, North Carolina.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis Elworth Thomas. Two (2) daughters: Anna Anita Huff (Jimmy) of Annapolis, Maryland and Doretha Anthony (Kerry) of Clemmons, North Carolina. Three (3) sons: Rickey Allen Thomas (Maureen), Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Dennis Christopher Thomas, Winston-Salem, North Carolina and Danny Elworth Thomas (Traci) of Boomer, North Carolina. One (1) brother: Ronald Holbrook of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina.
Eleven grandchildren: Tenecia Thomas, Krissie Webster, Veronica Jones (Jeremy), Samantha Thomas, Danny Tedder, Damon Wade (Nicole) and Juwan Thomas all of North Carolina. Antonio Hatton of Wisconsin, Jamel Anthony of Maryland, Justin Anthony (Nnete) of Washington, D.C., and Christopher Thomas (Leilani) of California.
Fourteen great-grandchildren: Allena Thomas, Dre Lipford, Naeveh Hatton, Nahla Webster, Paxton Webster, Love Ferguson, Julian Tedder, Cambrian Tedder, Carigan Tedder, Elijah Jones, Levi Jones, Justice Anthony, Mackenzie Wade and Matthew Wade.
Two great-great grandchildren (twins): Amaya and Angelik Lipford.
Although we mourn her passing, we are also celebrating the life and legacy of an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother and friend who lived her life unapologetically. She warmed the hearts of everyone who were blessed to have known her. She has earned her wings and she is now flying high with her mother, father, sisters, brothers and baby Legend.Funeral Homes
