Lucille Perry Edwards, age 93, of 1396 Choate Dairy Road, Sparta, NC passed away Tuesday, March 24, 2020 at Grayson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Independence, VA.

She was born August 16, 1926 in Alleghany County to the late Samuel Leonard and Annie Brooks Perry. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Berry Clate Edwards; infant son, Samuel Mack Edwards; three brothers, Doughton Perry, Hugh Perry, and Guy Perry.

Lucille was an inspiration to her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was a strong lady whose love for God was foremost in her life, her family was next. She was the glue that held us all together. Her love for her family was so strong that she kept up with what was going on in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren lives right up to the last few weeks of her life. She played with them even in her fragile state and kept up with their ballgames. She even recently gave basketball advice to her great-grandsons. That was our mamaw, involved and in love with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a lifelong member of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church. She cleaned the church for many years and helped in any way she could. She retired after 37 years with Troutman Industries. She was a lifelong member of the Sparta VFW Auxiliary, working tirelessly with the other ladies. Most of all, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She taught us all the things of life, farming, gardening and canning. She will be missed dearly. Heaven is sweeter now with our mamaw there. We treasure the time we had with her on earth. Thank you Lord for your precious gift to our family.

Lucille is survived by four sons, William C. “Bill” Edwards and wife Sandy, Jack Edwards and wife Patricia, Stan Edwards and wife Shirley, David Edwards and wife Lisa, all of Sparta; seven grandchildren, Noelle Williams and husband Michael of Dry Ridge, KY, Allison Holladay and husband Rob of Mt.
