Dexter C. Presnell, age 82, of Spring Street, Washington, Georgia, a native and former resident of Watauga County, passed away Wednesday afternoon, October 30, 2019, at Piedmont-Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, Georgia.

Dexter was born March 15, 1937 in Watauga County, a son of the late Wesley and Elizabeth Hicks Presnell. He was a retired United States Navy Intelligence Officer, serving over 20 years.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret W. Presnell of Washington, Georgia; two sons, Carlow Presnell of Agana, Guam and Chris Presnell of Lake Havasu, Arizona; one daughter, Michelle Madantschi and husband Hussien of Phoenix, Arizona; three brothers, Odell Presnell of Banner Elk, Wade Presnell and wife Sue of Eden, North Carolina, and Earl Presnell of Lenoir, and one sister, Maxine Wilcox of Vilas. He is also survived by seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Eugene Presnell.

Funeral services for Dexter C. Presnell will be conducted Friday morning, November 8, 2019, at 10:00 o'clock, at Hampton Funeral Home Chapel. The body will lie in state, at the chapel, from 9:30 until 10:00 o'clock. Officiating will be Pastor Gordon Noble. Military graveside rites and burial, provided by the United States Navy, will follow in the Beech Creek Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday morning, from 9:30 until 10:00 o'clock, at the funeral home, prior to the service.
