Norene Duncan McKinney, age 85, of Estelle Lane in Spruce Pine, died Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Blue Ridge Regional hospital in Spruce Pine.

Born on January 20, 1934 in Mitchell County, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Lucy Smith Duncan. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Cleone McKinney who passed away in 1981. She was also preceded in death by her sisters; Pauline Burleson and Jean Hollifield. She was a member of the Mt. Calvary Freewill Baptist Church.

Norene was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She found delight in all of her babies and if one was missing at family gatherings, she wanted to know why and where they were. All holidays were celebrated at her home. Her home was the favorite place to go, it was everyone’s home. She will be irreplaceable and will be missed terribly. She taught her family how to love, how to be kind, and what kind of person each family member needed to be. Now her family is left to carry on her legacy and teach their babies the same standards through their many memories that she left behind. She will be their sunshine in their darkest days.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughters; Vicky Wise and, Ted and Vivian Pitman and, Frank all of Spruce Pine; her grandchildren; Robbie Self and Libby, Travise Pitman and Jennifer, Rusty Self and Misty, Jessica Farley and Kell, and Cody Pitman and Brittany; her great grandchildren; Troy Self and Corie, Todd Self, Trevor Self, Ty Pitman, Tate Pitman, Peyton Pitman, Maddox Pitman, Cayma Farley, Jarrett Farley, Paxton Farley, and Brayden Pitman; her great great grandchildren; Zia, Boyd, and Dorcie Self; her lifelong friend, Joyce Dayton; several nieces and nephews.
