James Woodrow Vaughn, age 66, of Silver Springs Road in Burnsville died Friday, May 25, 2018 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine.

Born May 14, 1952 in McDowell County, he was the son of the late Woodrow Jennings and Pearl Childers Vaughn. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his sisters; Nancy Pendley and Laura Hicks; and his brothers; Billy Beam, Kenneth Vaughn, Richard, Clyde, and Clarence Phillips.

James had been employed by Unimin for twenty-eight years. In his spare time, he enjoyed making custom knife handles. He loved spending time with his family and particularly his grandchildren. He also enjoyed fishing.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughter; Tracie Stapleton and husband, Ernie of Spruce Pine; his sons; Wesley Vaughn and wife, Vonda of Spruce Pine and Josh Vaughn and wife, Jeanne of Spruce Pine; his sister; Martha Vaughn of Spruce Pine; his half-sisters; Mildred Huskins and Kate Beam of Spruce Pine, and Betty Denton of Brevard; the mother of his children; Lillian Vaughn of Spruce Pine; there are six grandchildren, two great grandchildren and special nieces and nephews.

The family respectfully requests the honor of your presence at the funeral service honoring the life of James W. Vaughn on Monday, May 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church with Dr. Darrin Waldroup and Rev. Dallas Renfro officiating. A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Monday, May 28, 2018 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at the church. Interment will follow in the Crabtree Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery.
