Charles Douglas ‘Doug’ Garland, age 84, of Little Cove Lane in Burnsville, died Thursday, May 24, 2018 at Smokey Ridge Health & Rehab in Burnsville.

Born on February 17, 1934 in Mitchell County, he was the son of the late Charles Edward and Marjorie Conley Garland. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother; Jerry Lee Garland.

Doug was a lifelong fly fisherman and enjoyed fly fishing for trout. He played in the bluegrass band, ‘The Country Boys’ in the ‘60’s and 70’s. He was a retired truck driver from Feldspar trucking Company in Spruce Pine.

Left to cherish his memories are his daughter; Audrey Anne Garland Hamm and spouse, Heath of Southside, AL; his son; John Lee Garland of Rock Hill, SC; his grandchildren; Katherine Louise Garland of Charleston, SC; Alyssa Anne Garland of Greenville, SC; Annsleigh Morgan Hamm and Hunter Lee Hamm both of Southside, AL; his sister; Norma Jean Bailey of Asheville; and his nephews; Ronald Verne Bailey and Jerry Reese Bailey.
A time to support the family, share memories and receive friends will be on Monday, May 28, 2017 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Webb Funeral Home.
