Four emerging leaders and a community-minded mentor were honored during the inaugural Boone Area Chamber of Commerce 4 Under 40 Awards luncheon. The event was held Wednesday at the Holmes Convocation Center on the campus of Appalachian State University and was presented by Appalachian Commercial Real Estate.

The Watauga County Board of Commissioners will hold  public hearings on the proposed county budget, that will include a tax increase for county schools and a proposed recreation center.

There was a nearly full house for the Watauga County Board of Commissioners meeting Tuesday evening. Numerous citizens spoke during the public hearing on the proposed county budget.

Sixteen members of the High Country community have been selected as category finalists for the inaugural Boone Area Chamber of Commerce 4 Under 40 Awards. The Awards luncheon is Wednesday May 17th.

Andy Stephenson has been named the director of public safety and chief of police at Appalachian State University.

A new case of mumps was confirmed in Watauga County on May 11, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the county to four. The new case is in an Appalachian State University student.
