Friday afternoon's storms took out power to many in the High Country, due to strong winds.

The storms downed trees and broke power poles, leading to approximately 3000 Blue Ridge Energy members in Watauga and Ashe counties losing power during the storms.

New River Light and Power also reported a number of customers lost power Friday.

Crews worked into the overnight hours of Saturday morning restoring power, including area volunteer fire departments that cleared trees from roadways.

Most outages were repaired by around 3 am Saturday.

The National Weather Service reported radar indicated hail of around three quarters of an inch in some areas around 4:45 pm Friday.
