Appalachian State University invites to for the 37th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration featuring Bakari Sellers.

Bakari made history in 2006 when, at just 22 years old, he defeated a 26-year incumbent State Representative to become the youngest member of the South Carolina state legislature and the youngest African American elected official in the nation.

In 2014 he was the Democratic Nominee for Lt. Governor in the state of South Carolina.

Sellers is widely considered to be a rising star within the Democratic Party and a leading voice for his generation.

The Commemoration will be on Tuesday, January 18, with a Bust & Amendment Unveiling at 4:00 pm, in International Hallway, Plemmons Student Union, and the Evening Program will be at 6:30 pm, at the The Schaefer Center.
