The Watauga Campus of Caldwell Community College was put on lockdown briefly Wednesday.

The Watauga Democrat reports the college enacted a precautionary lockdown around 10:30 am in response to an unsubstantiated threat.

According to the report, the Watauga County Sheriff's Office was notified that of a suspicious social media post regarding the campus.

Deputies responded to the campus and conferred with staff and placed the facility on lockdown while an investigation was conducted.

It was determined that there was no danger to students or campus and the lockdown was lifted.

CCC&TI Executive Director of Community Relations Edward Terry said the campus returned to normal operations by 11 am.

Watauga Sheriff's Office is investigating the origin of the social media report and the content that caused concern.
