AppHealthCare's COVID update from Friday October 8 shows Watauga, Ashe and Alleghany counties continue to be listed as High Transmission Counties.
In Watauga, the number of new cases and the positivity rate of testing were both higher last week. Out of the seven clusters being monitored in Watauga, there were only two cases at the Cottages of Boone and 2 at the Standard. Watauga county is at 56% either fully or partially vaccinated.
In Ashe County, 52% are partially or fully vaccinated, and the number of new cases as well as the positivity rate have both increased over the previous week. There is one active case in the Margate Health cluster as of October 4.

App State Chancellor Dr. Sheri Everts said in her weekly update that the university's latest reported student vaccination rate is 60%, and the number is expected to continue to rise. There has been a 25% increase in verified, student vaccine card submission since Aug. 23.
According to the Chancellor's report, last week the university tested 1,851 students, faculty and staff on campus, with a positivity rate of 0.5%, well below both Watauga's and the state's numbers.
